Privacy by Design
This privacy policy describes how our applications, including "Feels Like", handle your information. We collect only what's necessary to provide you with accurate weather information.
What Information We Collect
Our apps are designed to be privacy-focused. Here's exactly what we collect:
Location Information (with your permission):
- Your current location coordinates (latitude and longitude) to provide local weather
- Location names you search for and save (stored only on your device)
- We reverse-geocode coordinates to display readable location names (e.g., "Toronto, ON")
App Preferences (stored locally):
- Your temperature unit preference (Celsius or Fahrenheit)
- Your saved locations list
- Weather data cache (to reduce data usage and provide faster loading)
Support Communications:
- Information you provide when contacting us for support
- Feedback you choose to share about the app
What We Don't Collect
We believe in transparency about what we don't collect:
- No usage analytics or tracking
- No advertising identifiers
- No device fingerprinting
- No personal information beyond what's listed above
- No automatic crash reporting (Apple may collect crash data, but we don't)
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to:
- Fetch weather data for your current location and saved locations
- Display weather information in your preferred temperature units
- Cache weather data locally to improve app performance and reduce data usage
- Respond to your support inquiries
- Improve our apps based on feedback you voluntarily provide
How We Store Your Data
Your privacy is protected through local storage:
- On Your Device: All your preferences and saved locations are stored locally using iOS's secure UserDefaults system
- Weather Cache: Weather data is temporarily cached on your device and automatically expires
- No Cloud Storage: We don't sync your data to any cloud services or our servers
- No User Accounts: No registration, login, or user accounts required
Third-Party Services
Our apps use minimal third-party services:
- Open-Meteo Weather API: We send only location coordinates (no personal information) to fetch weather data. Open-Meteo is a privacy-focused weather service that doesn't require API keys or track users.
- Apple's Location Services: We use iOS's built-in location services with your explicit permission
- iOS Sharing: When you share weather information, we use iOS's native sharing system
Data Retention
No information is shared and stored in the cloud. Some information is kept on-device, only as long as necessary:
- Location Data: Only used temporarily to fetch weather, not stored on our servers
- Weather Cache: Automatically expires after 12 hours to ensure fresh data
- App Data: Remains on your device until you delete the app or clear the data
Technical Details
For transparency, here are technical details about how our apps work:
- Weather Data: We use Open-Meteo's free weather API, which doesn't require user registration or API keys
- Location Accuracy: We only update location when accuracy is 100 meters or better
- Cache Management: Weather data cache automatically expires and is cleaned up regularly
- Network Usage: We minimize API calls through intelligent caching (typically updates every 3 hours)
Data Security
We protect your information through:
- Local Storage: All personal data stays on your device using iOS's secure storage systems
- No Central Database: We don't maintain a database of user information
- Minimal Data Transmission: Only coordinates are sent to weather services, no personal identifiers
- iOS Security: We rely on Apple's security framework for data protection
